Progress Update

February 2021

As with everything that 2020 brought us, Project Hope Road was put on pause during the Covid-19 shutdown. We are back at it and wanted to provide an exciting update. To further support our district wide efforts, Project Hope Road has merged with the Hamden PTA Council, who has been instrumental in securing PHR grant funds and ensuring donations that have made our progress possible.

Over the last year, thanks to all of your donations, over 500 books have been donated to Project Hope Road. These books have been donated directly to the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students of Hamden Public Schools to be used as shared text reading for in class book clubs!

On September 25, 2020, PHR books were distributed to Helen Street and Dunbar Hill Schools, and today books were donated to Church Street School. Of these donations, regular education classrooms received five copies of three titles, and IIC classrooms received a collection of picture books.

PHR developed this district wide initiative to benefit the greater community of Hamden students to support educational equity. There are 4 remaining elementary schools awaiting donations. If you are willing and able, please continue to donate books to this district-wide effort for diverse literature.

Project Hope Road believes that all children deserve to be represented in the literature they read in school. The road to equity is long. We hope this book project is just one small brick in the road toward a better, more equitable tomorrow.

Thank you for supporting this project to help guide our young people in becoming empathic citizens of our world.
